چکیده

A well-known problem in elasticity consists in placing two linearly elastic materials (of different shear moduli) in a given plane domain Ω, so as to maximize the torsional rigidity of the resulting rod; moreover, the proportion of these materials is prescribed. Such a problem may not have a classical solution as the optimal design may contain homogenization regions, where the two materials are mixed in a microscopic scale. Then, the optimal torsional rigidity becomes difficult to compute. In this paper we give some different theoretical upper and lower bounds for the optimal torsional rigidity, and we compare them on some significant domains. 2000MSC: 49K30, 52A10, 74B05.

Mechanical Validation of Fourth-Generation Composite Femur and Tibia Models

INTRODUCTION: Mechanical analogue composite bone models have been used as cadaveric bone substitutes in a wide variety of biomechanical tests. The objective of this study was to validate the diaphyseal structural properties in terms of flexural rigidity, ultimate bending strength, axial stiffness, ultimate compression strength, ultimate torsional strength, torque angle at ultimate torsional str...

RESPONSE OF METACARPAL FRACTURE FIXATION CONSTRUCTS TO PHYSIOLOGICAL LOADINGS

This study compares the functional capabilities of different metacarpal fixation constructs under physiological loadings in an attempt to identify the optimal construct rather than the strongest one. One hundred and twenty-six preserved human metacarpals were mechanically tested after oblique osteotomies and internal fixation. Maximum load to failure, average structural rigidity, and energ...

Generalized Warping In Flexural-Torsional Buckling Analysis of Composite Beams

The finite element method is employed for the flexural-torsional linear buckling analysis of beams of arbitrarily shaped composite cross-section taking into account generalized warping (shear lag effects due to both flexure and torsion). The contacting materials, that constitute the composite cross section, may include a finite number of holes. A compressive axial load is applied to the beam. The...
